Be careful if you want to switch to custom domain. Many are having problems. If you got the famous “Another blog is already hosted at this address”, then you are in trouble because this is a bug and there is nothing you can do and nothing they will do. There are workarounds that work for some, but only for some. Better check their help group first before you switch to custom domain, although most posts are never answered

I recently purchased a custom domain with hopes of designing a frontpage for my blog. I have yet been able to do so. I’m trying to work around it, but I fear it will take some time, as I am not very net savvy. I wish I knew more about the limitations of customizing the blog’s appearance before I purchased the domain through Google. I’m hopeful Google/Blogger will work on this.

i was having the infamous “another blog is already hosted” problem for a while but blogger seems to now have a fix. i went to the blogger help group and submitted my URL to get cleared out and it works fine now.
try googling “another blog already hosted at this address” and you will see blogger’s solution posted in the top spot.

If you have your own domain you can have your blog look however you want. However, you may have to leave the navbar if the domain is purchased somewhere else than Blogger.

Uploading files requires some web hosting space… When you purchase a domain, you’re only registering the URL. So, the domain does not give you ANY more web hosting capabilities than Blogger already gives, of its own accord.
It’s like registering your house address at the post office. You still need to purchase land area to OWN some space.

I have a blogger blog 4+ years old … if I switch to a custom domain for my blog, what happens to all the old posts (what will their URL be? the same as they have always been with the “blogspot” in the address?) and what happens to all the links on other people’s blogs and web articles, etc, that link to my blogspot now? Will those no longer work? I am hesitant to try the transition because of this. I have 4+ years worth of many links linking to my blog and don’t want to lose that.

I bought a domain last November 6 and until now my blog is not yet redirected to the domain i bought… And today is the th day… No customer service to talk to, ul be redirected to contact google thru email… and no reply till now.

Sad…
I don’t prefer to use any value added services from Google. They don’t care their customers. (even after paying $10K for google maps api premier)
So just use what you get for free. If at all you want to buy then dont expect proper response.
Did it happened atleast now?
